Ashleigh Penrod, Founder

A professional dance choreographer turned brand and organizational strategist, I’ve consulted in all sorts of (literal and figurative) fields with all sorts of ambitious people.

Throughout my 20-year career, my work has remained rooted in behavioral insights, empathy, and experimentation. This keeps me open to partnerships of all shapes and sizes, including with my long-time collaborator Sarah Herberg of Loom (see: Workshops).

Prior to founding Mess Hill in 2021, I built and ran Nostos, a cooperative community of best-in-class, independent agencies who work together to create shared resiliency and achieve greater impact.

Soil Nerd

My passion for regenerative agriculture was sparked by my work with some of the biggest food companies in the world, from helping to create new, more nutrient-dense, lower-footprint brands, to updating the way long-time businesses approach their supply chain. Soil health is people and planet health.

This passion was fueled further by Gustavus Adolphus College’s 2018 Nobel Conference, “Living Soil: A Universe Underfoot,” where I began to learn more about the stunning science of soil and what regenerative practices can accomplish for farmers, consumers, and our ecosystems.

Today, I work with some of the soil-smartest, kindest, and most dedicated folks out there. I also have a young kiddo who loves all things dirt and dirty. He helps me experiment in our garden and he likes fresh strawberries best of all.
